"My Sanctuary" SOTF #1483
A chronicle of the rejuvenation and transformation of a 1959 Talisman Ventura travel trailer from a sad, neglected lady to my Sisters on the Fly resort on wheels- "My Sanctuary". I'm looking forward to tons of fun ahead...

Our family went camping at Canyon Lake for Spring Break 3 years ago. I loved Canyon Lake then, which gave me the idea for our SOTF campout. During that family campout, there was a huge group of women who came to kayak together for the morning. That memory has stayed with me, encouraging me to make kayaking part of our trip. Everyone was so enthusiastic about this part of the trip. Many sisters bought a kayak just for this trip! We had a wonderful time kayaking in and out of secluded, shady canyons with steep cool walls, river birds, wildflowers and ancient long ago secrets. Faye gave us a spine-tingling concert on her Native flute. The sounds were haunting and thrilling.

Beautiful Campsite
I had one of the best campsites at Canyon Lake, the Marina said it was the best. I was tucked into a corner and my view of the lake in the morning was just right. Each morning I woke early to the smell of coffee and the sounds of the grackles trying to eat any food leftovers while writing my manuscript. Here is the view I had each morning. Made it hard to keep working.
Canyon Lake Dinner and Cocktail Hour
Meals were a "no worries" event. Everyone signed up through Kathleen for the Chili Cook-off or through the potluck website. There were last minute assignments for those sisters who don't use a computer and then we posted the assignments at the "kitchen". This made for easy set up, meal prep and clean up. We had wonderful coffee fairies who rose early with the sun to get it hot and ready for the sisters. This made it such a joy to get up to a beautiful sunrise in the canyon and the smell of hot brewed coffee. Cocktail hour, of course, was always fun. Lots of laughter, relaxing and visiting. Probably the best part of each day.
Welcome Spring Canyon Lake and Kayaking
March 28-April 1, 2012 It finally arrived. After months of planning and finalizing last minute campsite reservations(mystery space 6), dinner assignments, and activity plans I loaded up the trailer and all the little extras to make my first hostessed sister campout just right, and headed for Canyon Lake. The weather was perfect, in the high 80-90s, the wildflowers were all in bloom and I was ready to get my trailer to the lake!
